What is Pediatric Urine Collection Bag System?
Paediatric urine collection bags are sterile adhesive pouches that fit over the perineal region of infants and young children who are not yet toilet-trained. They permit non-invasive collection of random urine specimens for metabolic, toxicological, and organic-acid panels where a clean-catch or catheterised sample cannot be obtained. The bag is applied to clean, dry skin, monitored until the child voids, and removed promptly to minimise contamination from faecal matter or prolonged contact with the perineum. These bags are not suitable for culture specimens owing to high contamination risk, but they are acceptable for most biochemical assays when proper antiseptic preparation and prompt transfer to a sterile container are observed.
