What is Thyroglobulin Antibodies?
Thyroglobulin antibodies are autoantibodies directed against thyroglobulin, the large glycoprotein synthesised by thyroid follicular cells that serves as the matrix for thyroid hormone production. Their presence indicates an autoimmune response to thyroid tissue. TgAb are produced by infiltrating lymphocytes in autoimmune thyroid disease and, beyond their diagnostic role, are clinically important because they interfere with the measurement of serum thyroglobulin used in thyroid cancer surveillance.
