What is Aluminium?
Aluminium is a non-essential trivalent metal with no known physiological role. In people with intact kidneys, gastrointestinal absorption is low and the small absorbed fraction is cleared renally, keeping circulating concentrations minimal. When glomerular filtration falls — or when parenteral routes bypass the gut barrier — the metal accumulates, distributing to bone, liver, and the central nervous system, where it binds transferrin and competes with iron and calcium handling.
