What is Aspergillus versicolor?
Aspergillus versicolor is a xerophilic mould species capable of growth on damp building materials, particularly gypsum board, cellulose insulation, and ceiling tiles. It produces sterigmatocystin, a mycotoxin structurally related to aflatoxin, and has been isolated from water-damaged buildings associated with occupant complaints of respiratory and systemic symptoms.
