What is Babesia-specific Immunoglobulin G?
Immunoglobulin G antibodies to Babesia species appear weeks after acute infection and can persist for months to years. IgG responses develop more slowly than IgM and represent either recent or past exposure. The immunoblot detects antibody binding to specific Babesia antigens separated by molecular weight, providing greater specificity than enzyme immunoassays by displaying the pattern of reactivity rather than a single optical density.
