What is Babesia microti IgG Antibody?
IgG antibodies to Babesia microti appear several weeks after infection with this intraerythrocytic apicomplexan parasite, which is transmitted by Ixodes ticks and causes fever, haemolytic anaemia, and constitutional symptoms. IgG persists for months to years after acute infection and is the mainstay of serological diagnosis, though cross-reactivity with other Babesia species and Plasmodium can occur.
