What is Chlamydophila pneumoniae IgG?
IgG antibodies to C. pneumoniae appear later than IgM, typically several weeks into infection, and can persist for years after resolution. The organism is highly prevalent, so a substantial proportion of adults harbour detectable IgG from prior asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic exposure. Rising titres between acute and convalescent sera are the traditional serological hallmark of acute infection.
