What is Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Antibodies IgG?
Glial fibrillary acidic protein is an intermediate filament found in astrocytes; serum GFAP has been studied as a biomarker of astrocytic injury in trauma, stroke, and neurodegenerative disease. Antibodies to GFAP, distinct from measurement of the protein itself, are occasionally seen in autoimmune encephalitides and as an exploratory marker in functional panels.
