What is Lipoprotein Particle Profile?
Lipoprotein particles are the cholesterol- and triglyceride-carrying vehicles in the circulation, and particle number and size provide additional cardiovascular risk stratification beyond standard lipid mass measurements. Small, dense LDL particles are more atherogenic per unit cholesterol than large, buoyant LDL, and LDL-P has been shown to correlate more strongly with cardiovascular events than LDL cholesterol alone. HDL particle number reflects the functional capacity of reverse cholesterol transport.
