What is Ochratoxin A?
Ochratoxin A is produced by Aspergillus and Penicillium species and is found in contaminated grains, coffee, dried fruit, and water-damaged environments. It has a long half-life owing to enterohepatic recirculation and plasma protein binding, and is excreted renally. It is nephrotoxic in animal models and a focus of environmental-exposure assessment.
