What is Gliotoxin?
Gliotoxin is an immunosuppressive epidithiodioxopiperazine mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus fumigatus and other species. It inhibits T-cell activation, induces apoptosis, and disrupts phagocyte function. In invasive aspergillosis, elevated gliotoxin is associated with immune evasion.
