What is Testosterone, Free?
Free testosterone is the small unbound fraction not attached to SHBG or albumin and is considered the immediately bioavailable, biologically active portion. In this panel it is typically calculated from total testosterone, SHBG, and albumin rather than measured directly, since direct analogue immunoassays for free testosterone are regarded as unreliable.
