What is Bacteroides species abundance?
Bacteroides are obligate anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria specialised in degrading complex plant polysaccharides. They are largely absent or present at low abundance during exclusive milk feeding and expand when solid foods introduce dietary fibre. Premature or excessive Bacteroides colonisation during the milk-fed period may reflect early dysbiosis or formula feeding.
