What is Beta-2-Glycoprotein I Antibody, IgG?
Beta-2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI, also termed apolipoprotein H) is a plasma protein that binds phospholipids and is a major antigen in antiphospholipid syndrome. IgG antibodies to β2GPI are pathogenic; they bind the protein when it is complexed with anionic phospholipid surfaces, triggering endothelial activation, increased tissue factor expression, complement activation, and dysregulated coagulation. β2GPI IgG persists longer than transient infection-associated antiphospholipid antibodies and is the most clinically significant isotype.
