What is Diamine Oxidase?
Diamine oxidase is an enzyme produced by enterocytes in the small-intestinal mucosa that degrades histamine and other biogenic amines in the gut lumen and during mucosal absorption. It is released into the circulation in proportion to enterocyte mass and mucosal integrity, making it a functional marker of small-bowel enterocyte health.
