What is Glycine?
Glycine is an amino acid and inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, particularly in the spinal cord and brainstem. It also modulates excitatory transmission at N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors. Urinary glycine reflects whole-body amino acid metabolism, including diet and renal handling, rather than central neurotransmitter activity.
