What is Phenylethylamine?
Phenylethylamine is a trace amine synthesised from phenylalanine, structurally similar to amphetamine. It modulates dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission and is rapidly metabolised by monoamine oxidase. Urinary phenylethylamine reflects peripheral metabolism, and its role as a neuromodulator is largely indirect.
