What is Progesterone (Saliva)?
Salivary progesterone measures the free, unbound steroid that diffuses into saliva. The concentration is a small fraction of serum but closely mirrors tissue-level progesterone. Collection timing is critical: luteal-phase sampling (days 19–21 of a 28-day cycle) captures the corpus-luteum peak, while follicular values are near the assay limit of detection.
