What is Proteobacteria (phylum) — dysbiosis signal?
Proteobacteria is a phylum that includes many facultative anaerobes and several enteric organisms. In a balanced adult colon it usually represents a small minority of reads. Expansion of this phylum has been proposed as a non-specific ecological marker of a perturbed or inflamed gut environment, for example where mucosal oxygen availability favours facultative anaerobes.
