What is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone?
Thyroid stimulating hormone is secreted by anterior pituitary thyrotrophs under negative feedback from circulating thyroid hormones. Because the feedback relationship is log-linear, small changes in free thyroxine produce large amplified changes in TSH, making it the most sensitive first-line indicator of thyroid status in patients with an intact pituitary axis.
