What is Antimony (Sb), Urine, Random?
Antimony is a metalloid with chemical properties similar to arsenic, existing in trivalent (Sb³⁺) and pentavalent (Sb⁵⁺) oxidation states. Primary exposure sources include flame retardants (antimony trioxide in textiles, electronics, and plastics), lead-antimony alloys in ammunition and batteries, and occupational exposure in smelting and semiconductor manufacturing. Trivalent antimony is more toxic than pentavalent and shares mechanistic toxicity with arsenic through inhibition of sulfhydryl-containing enzymes.
