What is Bismuth (Bi), Urine, Random?
Bismuth is a heavy post-transition metal used medicinally in bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol and equivalent products) for gastrointestinal indications, and historically in dermatological preparations. Urinary bismuth rises predictably with bismuth-containing medication use and falls rapidly on discontinuation. Occupational exposure occurs in bismuth alloy manufacturing, electronics, and cosmetics production. Bismuth is excreted renally, with a biphasic half-life following medicinal use.
