What is Norepinephrine?
Norepinephrine is synthesised from dopamine by dopamine beta-hydroxylase in sympathetic neurons and the adrenal medulla. It is the principal sympathetic postganglionic neurotransmitter, regulating arousal, attention, vigilance, and the cardiovascular stress response. Urine norepinephrine reflects sympathetic nervous system activity and adrenal catecholamine output; its metabolite normetanephrine is preferred for phaeochromocytoma screening.
