What is Tin (Sn), Urine, Random?
Inorganic tin compounds, widely used in food can linings (tin-plated steel) and industrial coatings, are poorly absorbed from the GI tract and have low toxicity at typical dietary exposure levels. Organotin compounds — tributyltin (TBT), used historically as antifouling paint in marine applications, and tributyltin oxide — are substantially more toxic, acting as endocrine disruptors and immunotoxicants. Urinary tin reflects primarily inorganic tin exposure and recent dietary intake.
