What is Tungsten (W), Urine, Random?
Tungsten is a transition metal used extensively in hard metal alloys (cemented tungsten carbide), military ammunition (tungsten-based alloys as lead substitutes), electronic components, and filaments. Exposure routes include occupational inhalation in hard metal manufacturing, ingestion from contaminated water sources (elevated tungsten in groundwater has been identified in specific geographic clusters in the USA), and inhalation of gunshot residue from tungsten-based ammunition. Tungsten inhibits molybdenum-dependent enzymes by substituting for molybdenum as a cofactor analogue.
