What is Urinalysis with Microscopy?
Urinalysis combines chemical dipstick analysis with microscopic examination of a urine centrifugate to assess renal tubular function, glomerular integrity, urinary tract health, and systemic metabolic states reflected in urine composition. Specific gravity and osmolality reflect renal concentrating ability and hydration status. Protein, blood, and cellular casts assess glomerular barrier integrity. Leucocyte esterase and nitrites are bacteriuria and infection markers. Glucose in urine indicates tubular reabsorptive capacity has been exceeded by hyperglycaemia.
