What is 16α-Hydroxyestrone?
16α-Hydroxyestrone is produced by cytochrome P450 3A4 and other enzymes via hydroxylation at the C16α position. It retains significant oestrogenic potency, binds covalently to the oestrogen receptor, and stimulates cellular proliferation more persistently than parent oestrogens.
