What is Estriol?
Estriol is a weak oestrogen produced in small amounts by ovarian and adrenal pathways, with large placental synthesis during pregnancy. Outside pregnancy, oestriol represents a terminal metabolite of oestrone and oestradiol, and its measurement in 24-hour urine reflects the overall flux through oestrogenic pathways. It has the lowest receptor affinity of the three classical oestrogens.
