What is 16α-Hydroxyestrone?
16α-Hydroxyestrone is produced by CYP3A4-mediated 16α-hydroxylation of estrone. It retains significant oestrogenic activity and can form covalent adducts with the oestrogen receptor, resulting in prolonged receptor occupancy. Observational studies have linked higher 16α-OHE1 or a lower 2:16α ratio to greater proliferative signalling in breast tissue.
