What is 2-Hydroxyestrone?
2-Hydroxyestrone is a principal catechol oestrogen metabolite formed by cytochrome P450 1A1/1A2 hydroxylation of oestrone and oestradiol. It is considered a 'favourable' or 'protective' metabolite with weak oestrogenic activity, minimal proliferative effect, and possible antiproliferative actions. It is rapidly methylated by catechol-O-methyltransferase to methoxy derivatives or conjugated for excretion.
